Necessity of Maint Areas

A
  1. When tps are deployed in fwd area, away from adm installs/depots.
  2. To enable daily maint of fwd tps in a systematic manner, from rear to fwd.
  3. When tps go beyond 1 day turn rd time.
  4. When there are chances of disruption in comns either by en action or by physical characters of the trn.
  5. When there is a rqmt of placing res stocks in proximity of fighting tps.

(DAA) Concept.

A
  1. This is an area in which administrative units and administrative echelons are located and from where they carry out their primary functions.
  2. The general area is selected by the QM staff in consolation with service heads and indicated to DAA cdr for details recce and siting of administrative units.
  3. DAA should be left clear of transit, Assy A or Conc A for fighting tps as it is intended for use administrative units serving the Div.

Aim. The DAA is formed for the following reasons: - [LRF – CP] 5

  1. To locate administrative units of the Div.
  2. To reduce the amount of Tpt in the fwd areas such as B Ech and at time even a part of F and A Ech.
  3. To facilitate signal comn between Div HQ and administrative units.
  4. To coordinate defense of administrative units.
  5. To provide a reception area for rft and replacement.

Conditions for Establishing a DMA

A

In the plains, conditions that may necessitate the establishment of a DMA are: -
1. Necessity to hold reserves within easy reach of the cdr to enable him to exploit fleeting opportunities in a fav tac sit.
2. Need to keep some reserves near the tps fwd of an obstl e.g. a river or insecure rd comn, to guard against interruption of normal maint.

  5. On Extended Def concept.
  6. When the En is likely to interfere with movement on the axis of maint.

Differentiate between DMA & DAA

A

DMA differs from DAA in that it holds stocks on the grnd in excess of the Div’s 2nd line holdings. In mtn, establishment of DMA would be normal.
