Q

What is a Segment OCA?

A

Also called Segment Minimum Altitude, shaded area on an approach chart which shows the minimum altitude for that segment.

17
Q

What is UNICOM?

A

Radio communication service which provides aerodrome information. Is NOT ATC.

18
Q

What is AWIB?

A

(Automatic) Aerodrome and Weather Information Broadcast.

19
Q

What is a RESA?

A

Runway End Saftey Area. Area clear at end of runway to reduce chance of damage if aircraft overuns the runway.

20
Q

Where to find Chart Symbols?

21
Q

Where to find Definitions?

A

Part 1, AIP GEN 2.2

22
Q

Descent below DA/DH/MDH requirements?

A
  1. Be in a position that with normal descent a normal touchdown can occur in the touchdown zone.
  2. Visibility is not less than the procedure minimum.
  3. At least 1 of the 9 runway lights/markings are visible (That identify a runway).
23
Q

What is TODA?

A

TORA + Clearway

24
Q

What is a Clearway?

A

Area at end of runway suitable for initial climb

25
Is a DME Arc considered an Initial Approach segment?
Yes.
26
When will ATC advise a pilot to check their altimeter setting?
When a deviation of 200ft or more from the displayed level and reported level passing.
27
Radar control will not apply a speed restriction beyond how many miles from touchdown?
5nm instrument approach, 4nm visual approach.
28
Definition of Distress (Mayday)?
The aircraft or crew are threatened by serious or imminent danger and immediate assistance is required.
29
Definition of Urgency (Pan Pan)?
Situation which affects the safety of the aircraft or persons on board but does not require immediate assistance. (Possible Assistance Needed - PAN).
30
Where to find Communication Failure procedures?
Pink pages AIP. (ENR 1.15).
31
What is TIBA? Where to find the procedure?
ENR 1.15. Traffic information broadcast. To be used when ATS are unavailable.
32
Where to find information on special use airspace?
AIP ENR Section.
33
When does the minimum usable flight level for a zone area increase to FL160?
When zone QNH is 980 or less or within 20nm of Mount Cook.
34
What is required to operate within a Restricted Area?
Administering authorities approval, complies with any rules and restrictions.
35
What is required to operate within a Danger Area?
PIC must assess that the activity associated with the danger area does not affect safety of the aircraft.
36
Restrictions on operating within Volcanic Hazard Zones?
Do not go in at night, or in IMC. Can only go in if considered all relevant MET and NOTAM information.
37
How do you activate PAL
5 rapid short transmissions, not exceeding 3 seconds in total.
