Q

Obturator artery NB

A

In 30% of cases obturator artery does not arise from internal iliac artery and pubic
branch of inferior epigasteric artery enlarges to replace it (abnormal obturator artery)

Q

Inferior gluteal artery

A
  1. Larger terminal branch of anterior division of internal iliac artery
  2. Passes through greater sciatic foramen below piriformis reaching gluteal region
  3. Supplies buttock and thigh, in pelvis supplies piriformis and levator ani

Q

Internal pudendal artery

A
  1. Smaller terminal branch of anterior division
  2. Passes through greater sciatic foramen below piriformis entering gluteal region
  3. Then passes through lesser sciatic foramen to enter pudendal canal reaching perineum

Q

Umbilical and superior vesical arteries

A
  1. It is the 1st branch of anterior division
  2. Gives origin at its root to superior vesical artery distal to superior vesical artery origin
  3. It forms a solid fibrous cord (medial umbilical ligament) which raises peritoneal fold (medial umbilical fold)

Q

Umbilical and superior vesical arteries supply

A

Supplies:
1. Urinary bladder superior surface
2. Ureter distal part
3. Vas deferens
4. Seminal vesicle

Q

Middle rectal artery

A

Supplies:
1. Rectum
2. Urinary bladder base
3. Seminal vesicle
4. Prostate
5. Vagina
It anastomoses poorly with other rectal arteries (superior and inferior rectal arteries)

16
Q

Inferior vesical artery

A
  1. Present only in male (replaced in female by vaginal artery and may arise in common stem with middle rectal artery)
  2. It supplies
    - Urinary bladder
    - Prostate
    - Seminal vesicles
    - Vas deferens
17
Q

Uterine artery

A
  1. In female only
  2. Has a tortuous course (to allow stretching as uterus grows in pregnancy)
  3. It runs along uterus lateral border in medial part of broad ligament
  4. Ends near ovarian hilum by anastomosing with ovarian artery
18
Q

Uterine artery supply

A

Supplies:
1. Uterus
2. Uterine tube (medial 3/4)
3. Vagina
May give rise to vaginal artery
