Approaches -Albert bandura
Social learning theory is
Says reinforces n punishments merely inform individual of likely consequences n is down to individual on whether their behaviour is affected by potential consequences .-mediation processes sometimes refferes theory to social cognitive theory .
Basically learn behaviour by observing positive n negative consequences of someone’s else’s behaviour, vicarious-we don’t relieve reward or punishment ourself but person modelling does -role model
Approaches
Social learning theory ,bandura
Assumptions
Behaviour learnt from environment so genetics not influence
Learnt from observing others n reinforcement or punishment they recieve ,individuals use consequences to decide whether imitate or not
Approaches
Social learning theory
Bandura
Identification
Individual influenced by another cus some way similar to or want be like -identify with.
Much more likely to if identify wit.many factors influence choice of model eg gender, higher status, ethnicity, greater expertise.dont occur without reason
Approaches
Social learning theory
Bandura
Imitation
When somone observes behaviour from role model n copies .determinants of wether behaviour is imitated is characteristics of model ,ability to perform behaviour and observed consequences of behaviours (see u do depending on factors influencing)

Bandura
Modelling
Observing behaviour of role model ,individual might observe a live model eg parent, teacher, bro sis,or symbolic model eg character on TV providing example of behaviour that maybe imitated at later stage -pick who/which model to imitate
Approaches
Social learning theory
Bandura
Vicarious reinforcement
Observer sees model receiving
Don’t reciev themselves they see somone else get
Reinforcement-reward makes behaviour more likely imitated eg younger sis observing older for getting high grades so younger works hard so they also get reward.

Role of mediating process background info
Not strictly behaviour approach cus does look at cognitive process .suggests there’s some thought prior Imitation intervening between stimulus n response (mediation processes) -attention,retention,reproduction,motivation
Approaches
Social learning theory
Bandura
Mediation processes
Attention
Imitated when noticed not all behaviour on daily basis sis is noteworthy
Approaches
Social learning
Bandura
Mediation processes
Retention
May notce, may not remember printing Imitation important for memory OF BEHAVIOJR to be formed not always na immediate process (social learning
Approaches
Social learning
Bandura
Mediation processes
Reproduction
We see lots of behaviour we would like to imitate but not always possible -limited by physical ability.i fluences our decision on whether to imitate
Approaches
Social learning
Bandura
Mediation processes
Motivation
Desire to perform behaviour rewards n punishments considered. If perceives rewards outweigh costs then observer more motivated to imitate .if vicarious reinforcement not seen to be important then not motivated to behave.
