Autism Spectrum Disorder Vs. Social (Pragmatic) Communication Disorder
With autism there is lack of social reciprocity (poor communication, poor relationships) & stereotypes repetitive bx (i.e., hand gestures, hand slapping). Social Pragmatic Communication has an impair social communication but not the stereotypes bxs.
Specific Learning Disorder vs. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
SLD: difficulty with basic skills (EX: dyslexia)
ADHD: onset before the age of 12. Sxs need to be seen in 2 settings like school and at home. Problems with attention and hyperactivity.
Pica vs. Rumination Disorder
Pica: is the persistent of eating non-food substances
Rumination D: Repetitive regurgitation of food.
Learning Disorder vs. Childhood-Onset Fluency Disorder
Diagnosed between 0-5 years
Learning Disorder: Hard time building vocabulary. Child use simple sentences “me go park.”
Childhood Onset FD: “stuttering” or broken words- long pause between syllable word.
Tourette’s Disorder vs. Persistent Motor/ Vocal Tic Disorder
Tourette’s: client has both motor and vocal tics. Ex: Facial tics and Shout words
Persistent Motor Disorder: Client has either a vocal or motor tic, both not both.
Encopresis vs. Enurisis
Client needs to be older than 4 years old.
Encopresis: poop
Enuresis: urination
Separation Anxiety vs. Generalized Anxiety
Separation anxiety disorder: anxiety specific to caregiving/Parents. It needs to be present for four weeks. It’s anticipatory anxiety or after after the separation the child inconsolable.
General sided disorder the worry has to be about a number of things and there’s has to be physical symptoms present for six months.
Reactive attachment disorder vs. Disinhibited Social Engagement disorder
Nine months- 5 years
Reactive: failure to thrive - Child will be withdrawn, won’t respond to comfort, Will have a difficult time engaging/No reaction.
Inhibited: Child has no boundaries and overly attaches.
Oppositional defined disorder vs. Conduct Disorder vs. Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder
Oppositional: defiant, has problems with authority.
Conduct: violation of rights of others, lack of remorse.
Disruptive: 6-10 years. Chronically irritable 3-4 weeks of outburst tantrums.
Brief Psychotic Disorder vs. Schizophreniform Disorder vs. Schizophrenia
Brief Psychotic D: sxs present for 1 month.
Schizophreniform: 1month- 6 months
Schizophrenia: sxs for more than 6 months
