Auxiliary Building Ventialation(VA) Flashcards
(29 cards)
What is the purpose of the Auxiliary Building Ventilation System?
- Provide a suitable working environment for personnel and equipment. Air exhausted from contaminated and potentially contaminated areas is monitored for radiation and filtered as required prior to release
- During accident conditions, Auxiliary Building Ventilation aligns to assure that the ECCS pump rooms are maintained at a negative pressure and air exhausted form these rooms is filtered prior to being released
How is flow balanced in the system to prevent the spread of contamination?
System flow is balanced to always have the flow from non-contaminated areas to contaminated ares, and then out via the exhaust fans
What is the Auxiliary Building Ventilation normal temperature range?
40F - 110F
What systems assist in maintaining temperature in the Auxiliary Building Ventilation System?
- Heating is provided by the Building Heating System(YH) whenever outside air temp is less than or equal to 50F and when AHU intake is less than or equal to 40F
- Cooling water is provided by the Containment Chilled Water System(YV), and is supplied to control temperature at 60F
What is the capacity and power supply to the Auxiliary Building Ventilation System Supply Units?
- Two 50% capacity supply units
- Power supplies:
A. MXW
B. MXX
What will cause an Auxiliary Building Ventilation Supply Unit to automatically start?
With its control switch in “AUTO”, each supply automatically starts as its associated unfiltered exhaust fan starts with a 1 minute TD to allow dampers to reposition
What will cause an Auxiliary Building Ventilation Supply unit to trip automatically?
- Associated Unfiltered exhaust fan shutdown
- Motor overload
- Smoke detectors on the outlet of the AHU(trips both supply fans)
What is the capacity and power supply to the Auxiliary Building Ventilation System Unfiltered Exhaust Fans?
- Two, 50% capacity exhaust fans
- Power supplies:
A. MXW
B. MXX
Where do the Unfiltered Exhaust Fans discharge to?
The Unit Vent
What will cause an Unfiltered Exhaust Fan to automatically start?
VC/YC taken to local(train related)
What will cause an Unfiltered Exhaust Fan to automatically stop?
- EMF-35, EMF-36 trip 2(train related)
- Safety Injection Signal(train related)
- Associated filtered exhaust fan shutdown
What is the start permissive required to start an Auxiliary Building Ventilation Unfiltered Exhaust Fan?
The Auxiliary Building Ventilation Unfiltered Exhaust fan receives a start permissive from the Auxiliary Building Filtered Exhaust Fan running
What is the capacity and power for the Auxiliary Building Ventilation Filtered Exhaust Fans?
- There are two 50% capacity filtered exhaust fans
- Power supplies:
A. EMXG
B. EMXH
Where do the Auxiliary Building Filtered Exhaust Fans discharge to?
The Unit Vent
What will cause an Auxiliary Building Ventilation Filtered Exhaust Fan to automatically start?
- Safety Injection Signal (train related)
- Blackout (unit and train related)
- VC/YC to LOCAL(train related)
What will cause an Auxiliary Building Ventilation Filtered Exhaust Fan to automatically stop?
- Motor overload
2. Tornado actuation
How many Auxiliary Building Ventilation Filter Units are there, and what is there status during normal operation?
- There are two filter units, one for each filtered exhaust fan
- They are normally bypassed
What will automatically place the Auxiliary Building Ventilation Filter Units in the filter mode?
- 0EMF-41 trip 2 (unit and train independent)
- 1(2)EMF-35 trip 2 (unit related)
- Safety Injection Signal (train related)
What is the purpose of the Auxiliary Building Ventilation Heater Demisters, and when do they operate, and where are they located?
- The heater demisters extend the life of the charcoal beds by removing moisture
- The heater demisters energize when the associated filtered exhaust fan is energized and the associated filter unit return damper is open or intermediate
- The heater demisters are located in the ductwork coming from each ECCS area located upstream of the filter unit
What ventilation fans exhaust to the Auxiliary Building Filtered Exhaust Fans suction?
- Counting Room Supply Filter Unit
- Counting Room Supply Unit
- Radwaste Area AHUs
- Filter and Demineralizer Room Exhaust Unit
- Aux Shutdown Panel Supply Units
- Waste and Recycle Evaporator Cooling Units
- Restricted Instrument Shop Cooling Unit
- P.D. Pump Room Cooling Unit
- Main Steam Doghouse Fans and Heaters
- Aux Building Electrical Penetration Rooms
- NM Sample Lab
What will automatically start the Auxiliary Shutdown Panel Supply Units?
Blackout (unit and train related)
What is the affect of a Safety Injection signal of the Auxiliary Shutdown Panel Supply Units?
- Safety Injection signal will trip the auxiliary shutdown panel air handling units
- They will be restarted by the load sequencer
What is the Auxiliary Building Ventilation System response to placing VC/VY in LOCAL?
-
The following is train related*
1. The Aux Building Filtered Exhaust Fans start
2. The Aux Building Unfiltered Exhaust Fans start
3. The Aux Building Supply Units start
What is the Auxiliary Building Exhaust Systems response to a Blackout?
-
The following is unit and train related*
1. The Aux Building Filtered Exhaust Fan trips and restarts
2. Allows a MANUAL start of the Aux Building Unfiltered Exhaust Fans, and that will start the Aux Building Supply Units if they are in AUTO
3. The Aux Building Unfiltered Exhaust Fan trips
4. The Aux Shutdown Panel Supply Unit starts
