Define homeostasis

The regulation of internal conditions of a cell or organism to maintain optimum conditions for function (in response to internal and external changes)

What is the role of automatic control systems?

They make sure that internal conditions of the body stay as constant as possible

What two systems work together to keep the internal environment at an optimum?

- The nervous system
- The Hormonal/ Chemical messaging system

What are the three internal conditions maintained by Homeostasis?

- Body Temperature
- Blood glucose concentration
- Water content of the body

Why is Homeostasis important?

Because it maintains the body's conditions at an optimum for enzyme action and all cell function
