Why was MQS execution important

A
  • It was seen as a attack to Catholicism globally
  • killing a royal did not make Elizabeth look good, it went against the divined right and encouraged her own murder
  • Mary was the focal point of Catholic restoration in England, with her gone, Spain would have to reassert their dominance themselves
