A
  • England was Protestant
  • A moderate prayer book (the Book of Common Prayer) was issued with some
    radical Puritan ideas in it
  • The wording was deliberately vague to keep both Protestants and Catholics happy
  • Catholic Mass was abandoned
  • The bible was written in English
  • Ornaments and candles were kept
  • Priests had to wear Catholic style vestments not plain black ones

The crucifix controversy - puritans hated idols but catholics depended on them
