Basic information processing Flashcards
(8 cards)
What is information processing?
Making decisions
Gathering data from you display (senses)
Prioritising the most important stimuli.
Making a suitable decision (choosing a skill)
What are the four stages
Input
Decision making
Output
Feedback
Describe the input stage
It is information that is received via the senses (sight/sound/touch/intuition) from the environment
Describe the decision making stage
Data is analysed and a response selected
A performer accesses memories of similar experiences which helps them choose
This can hold 7 pieces of information for 60s
When it is rehearsed it goes to the long term memory
Experienced performers will have more relevant information.
Describe the output stage
The decision is acted on
Information is sent from the brain to the working muscles.
Describe the feedback stage
Data is received in response to the output
This can be used to inform future decisions
What’s extrinsic feedback?
Received from outside.A coach, spectator or video replay
What’s intrinsic feedback?
Received from the performer through thoughts or emotions of can be kinaesthetic through receptors in the muscles.
