Define skill
A skill is a learned behaviour with the intention of bringing about predetermined results with maximum certainty and minimum outlay of time and energy
Define ability
An ability is inherited from your parents, abilities are stable traits that determine an individual’s potential to learn or acquire skills.
What are the four different continua?
- Basic to Complex continuum
2.open to closed continuum - Self paced to externally paced continuum
4.gross to fine continuum
Describe basic skill
1.Few decisions are made
2. Decisions have a limited impact on success
3. Usually taught as a beginner
4. Learned fairly quickly

Walking or jumping

- Decision making

- Unstable environment
2.skill is affected but the people around you - You may change the skill if the environment is not normal
- Often externally-paced

1.Start of movement is controlled by the performer
2. Speed,pave or rate of movement is controlled by the performer.
Describe Externally-paced skill
1.Start of movement is controlled by the external factors
2.The speed,pace and rate of movement is controlled by the external factors.

Involves the use of small muscle groups
Movements involve precision and accuracy
