What are the four types of guidance
Visual
Verbal
Manual
Mechanical
What is visual guidance
Guidance that you can see, for example a demonstration
What is verbal guidance?
Guidance that is provided by another person speaking to you
What is manual guidance?
Physically moving the performer, for example the coach supporting the movement through physical touch.
What is mechanical guidance
Using the mechanical aids to assist a performer for example using a float in swimming or a harness in tramplolimimg.
When is verbal guidance commonly used
Coach/teacher talking to performer highlighting technique
Coach/teacher highlighting a ‘trigger point’ e.g telling the performer to push when hitting the trampoline
What type of guidance may a beginner need
- Visual guidance to understand what the skill looks like
2.verbal guidance but must not be too long or complex
3.manual/mechanical guidance to support correct technique.
What guidance may a elite performer need?
1.visual guidance but only to highlight minor faults
3.verbal guidance but is longer and more complex
3.they are unlikely to need manual or mechanical guidance
