How is decaf made?
1.Swiss water process: Beans soak in hot water - dissolves caffeine with some other compounds and is passed through charcoal filter will rehydrate beans.
2. Direct Solvent method: steamed to open pores, methlene chloride or ethyl acetate is applied - beans are steamed again to remoe any residual solvent
3. Indirect Solvent: Starts with Swiss water process - seperated water is then treated and re-introduced to the bean to rehydrate with the flavor.
4. CO2 method: pressurized container & soaked with liquid co2 which binds with caffeine and draws it out of the bean. best for preserving the coffee’s flavor
5. Triglyceride method: soaked in coffee oils which extract caffeine. steamed to remove excess oil and dried.
