(9 cards)
Definition
As a histotoxic disease مهمة , infectious disease of rams, occur in head
Caused
by the toxin of Cl. novyi type A and
Characterized by
inflammatory edema of the head and neck.
Clostridium novyi species
Cl. novyi A = Bighead - histotoxic disease
Cl. novyi B = Black disease - Enterotoxiemia
Cl. novyi C = Osteomyelitis in buffalo - histotoxic disease
Cl haemolyticum (Cl. novyi D) = Bacillary hemoglobinuria - Enterotoxiemia
Pathogenesis
Short course, During ram fights, soil-borne spores are driven into the skin and produce toxins that cause necrosis. Then, they enter the bloodstream, causing toxemia and fluid accumulation . Bacterial toxins increase capillary permeability in the head and neck regions, leading to pronounced inflammatory edema, followed by shock.
Postmortem lesion
Black tissue , edema
Differential Diagnosis
Bighead, malignant edema, snake bite
Treatment
Penicillin
Prevention and control
Prevent fighting, vaccine
