Definition
infectious, toxemic disease of ruminants especially sheep
Caused by
the toxin of Cl. perfringens type D
characterized clinically by
diarrhea, convulsions, paralysis and sudden death.
Tropism
Systemic = from blood to kidney
Transmission
Feces, water, food
Factor susceptibility

Pathogenesis
The bacteria enter through contaminated food and water. If there is a wound in the rumen or abomasum, they germinate, produce toxins that enter the bloodstream, cause blood vessel destruction, reach the kidney, and lead to kidney autolysis.
Clinical signs
Autolysis kidney , diarrhea, peracute, bloody urea
Postmortem
- autolysis of kidney tissue (“pulpy kidney”) is characteristic.
- The characteristic change is the presence of soft pulpy kidneys بصمممممممممم
Diagnosis
Lesion from rumen, abomasum, kidney = gram stain
Differential diagnosis
Blackleg, Black disease, Anthrax, Leptospira, Bloat, Pregnancy toxemia, Hypomagnesaemia and acute poisoning.
Treatment
Penicillin, oral administration
