Biology Yr 8 Term 3 Sport and Nutrition Flashcards
(11 cards)
What is respiration?
Respiration is the chemical reaction that releases energy from glucose and oxygen. The glucose comes from out of food and the oxygen comes from the air that we breath in.
What are the 2 types of respiration?
Aerobic and Anaerobic
What is Aerobic respiration?
complete breakdown of glucose using oxygen to release energy
What is the word equation for aerobic respiration?
Glucose + Oxygen —-> Carbon dioxide + Water + Lots of energy
What is anaerobic respiration?
Respiration that only uses glucose.
What is the word equation for anaerobic respiration?
Glucose —> Lactic acid + Less energy.
What happens when you anaerobically respire for too long?
You can get things like muscle cramps and would pain and make you a lot more tired.
What are the different parts of the heart and what does it do?
Look at the one note, sport and nutrition and check if you have gotten it right.
What are the different parts to the Lungs and what do they do?
Trachea- This transports the air into the lungs.
Bronchi- This splits the air into 2 different parts of the lung, The left and right bronchiole. These different vein looking things then transports the oxygen to the alveoli.
Alveoli- This is what allows the change between the lungs and the veins. This then allows them to have the change through the process of diffusions (high concentration to a low concentration)
What happens when you don’t look after your body well? (Vapes or smokes)
The things such as tar gets stuck in the trachea, this then doesn’t allow the oxygen to then go into the body. This means that you won’t be able to breath as well. The problem with vapes, is that you are inhaling carbon monoxide. This then makes the wax in your lungs which provide moisture in the lungs, burn out and become very dry. This then makes diffusion really hard, because the oxygen particles can’t dissolve properly into the lungs which doesn’t diffuse.
What sort of things should we be having to have a balanced diet?
Carbohydrates- 2 types (sugar and Starch0
Protein- Give us energy
Fats- Needed for insulation, protection and energy.
Vitamins- Needed for strong bones and teeth, and keep us healthy.
Minerals- Keep us healthy
Fibre- Prevents constipation
Water- Needed for transport, sweat and cell structure.
