Biology Yr 8 test eoy Term 2 The living world Flashcards
(8 cards)
What are the five kingdoms that classify all living things?
Protoctists, Bacteria (prokaryote), Fungi, Animals and Plants.
What is the difference between a prokaryote and a euokaryote?
Prokaryote, having only one cell, eukaryote having multiple cells.
What classifies something as living and something that is not.
MRS C GREN
What does MRS C GREN stand for?
Movement, Respiration, Sensitivity, Control, Growth, Reproduction, Excretion (removing of all waste. including carbon dioxide), Nutrition
What is the word equation for photosynthesis?
Carbon dioxide + Water – (through light energy and it happens in the chlorophyll—-> Glucose +oxygen.
What is the difference between a monocot and a dicot?
A monocot is something that has only one cotyledon, but a dicot has 2. This cotyledon is just the sort of part that sprouts up, giving the plant the nutrition it needs to grow healthy and strong.
How can you tell the difference (by looking at it) between a monocot and a dicot?
Monocots have only one cotyledon, often shaped in a spike like form but a dicot, is the opposite having 2 shaped like an oval.
Monocots have parallel veins, but dicots have got veins creating some sort of network or things like that.
Monocots petals are often left in numbers of 3 or multiples of 3. Dicots are mainly multiples of 4-5.
Monocot plants have got a roots that are quite spread out, but dicots have roots that are left in a straight line.
Monocots vascular tissues are scattered in vascular bundles, but dicots are in vascular bundles around the circumference.
Through what technique do plants get their energy from?
Photosynthesis.
