Biology Yr 8 Term 4 Adaptations Flashcards
(7 cards)
What is an adaptation?
Feature that helps an organism to survive in a particular environment.
What is a preditor?
An animal which will hunt and kill another animal for food. A predator will have adaptations to help it successfully catch the prey.
What is prey?
An animal which is hunted by a predator as food. Prey will have adaptations to help t successfully escape capture from the predator.
What happens if you haven’t adapted enough to fit in with your different groups?
You will eventually die because of how outmatched you are compared to your predators or to the prey. You won’t be able to get enough food from prey, or you will die from the other well adapted predators.
Examples of adaptations-
Give few valid examples.
How have plants adapted to carry out photosynthesis?
They have got things like chlorophyll which allow them to do this.
How have plants adapted to absorb water?
They have grown root hair cells along the roots. They have a long hair like projection which increases the surface area meaning more water can be absorbed at one time increasing water absorption.
