Physics Trinity term Planets Flashcards
(14 cards)
What is the order of the planets in our solar system, can you remember the pneumonic?
MY VERY EASY METHOD JUST SPEEDS UP NAMES
Mercury
Venus
Earth
Mars
Jupiter
Saturn
Uranus
Neptune
What is the life cycle for a red giant star?
Stellar Nebula
Protostar
Main sequence Star
Red Giant
Planetary Nebula
White dwarf
Where are stars born?
Pillars of Creation (cool name for it)
How do these stars and planets form?
Gravity slowly pulls dust molecules around the star and are able to get them to come together and become 1 big pile of dust. Makes a Protostar
What happens when more gas joins in?
The temperature and pressure increases.
What happens when the temperature gets high enough. Specifically to the Hydrogen gas?
It makes the Hydrogen atoms fuse together releasing energy.
What dies faster a large star or a smaller star?
A large star because it burns through more of it energy a lot more faster than smaller stars.
What is a satellite?
It is something that orbits something else.
What is a natural vs artificial satellite?
Natural- A satellite that was already there, not made by humas like the moon or the planets in our solar system around the sun.
Artificial- Something that has been made by Humans like the ISS
What are the 2 different types of artificial satellites?
LEO Satellite- LOW EARTH ORBIT satellite
GEO Satellite- Geosynchronous Earth Orbit satellite
What is a LEO Satellite?
It is used for imaging and rapid weather info. This moves around the entire Earth and orbits it, giving information like weather reports to those countres.
What is a GEO satellite?
Moves alone yet with the Earth. Same spot. Different amount for each country.
What is the life cycle of a Red Super giant Star?
Stellar Nebula
Protostar
Massive Main sequence Star
Red Super giant
Supernova
Neutron Star or Black hole
What happens to gravity when a planet is bigger?
It increases the gravitational pull of everything.
