What are three functions of the kidney?

Eliminates metabolic wastes, maintained normal homeostasis and produces important hormones


What is Urea?

A metabolic waste that results from amino acid breakdown


What happens to urea?

It is filtered by the glomerulus and taken out by the kidneys

Prerenal abnormalities

When will false positives of BUNs occur?

If animal ingesta a high protien meal prior to a test


What is creatine?

A nitrogen containing molecule released from muscles and freely filtered by the kidneys at a constant rate


What can cause increased levels of Creatine?

Pre, renal, or postrenal abnormalities
