body systems stuff Flashcards
(23 cards)
blood flow
right atrium - tricuspid valve - right ventricle - pulmonary artery - lungs - pulmonary vein - left atrium - bicuspid valve - left ventricle - aorta - body
hearts electrical pulse flow
sinoatrial node (pacemaker) - atrioventricular node - atrioventricular bundle (bundle of his) - bundle branches (left and right) - purkinje fibers
coronary artery
brings blood to heart
aorta
blood to body
pulmonary artery
blood to lungs
carotid artery
blood to brain
femoral artery
blood to legs
brachial artery
inside arm
radial artery
wrist
posterior tibial artery
back of inside leg
dorsalis pedis
top of inner foot
blood flow arteries to veins
arteries to arterioles to capillaries to venules to veins
systolic vs diastolic pressure
sys is when left ventricle contracts
dia is when left ventricle refills
integumentary system (skin)
epidermis, dermis, subcutaneous
respiratory dysfunction
- controlled by medulla oblongata
- affected by infection, drugs, toxins, trauma
- disruption of pressure if wall of thorax is compromised or air or blood accumulates in chest (pleural space)
- disruption of lung tissue if trauma or medical problems compromise alveoli or hypoxia (low oxygen levels) or hypercapnia (high carbon dioxide levels)
respiratory compensation
-chemoreceptors detect changes and tell brain how to direct lungs
blood dysfunction
- bleeding
- dehydration (not enough plasma)
- anemia (not enough red blood cells)
- liver failure (can’t move blood around)
blood vessel dysfunction
- loss of tone (can’t constrict or dilate)
- excessive permeability (capillaries leak fluid bc of severe infection/sepsis or high altitude)
- hypertension (systemic vascular resistance)
4 categories of shock
hypovolemic (not enough volume)
distributive (not moving around well)
cardiogenic (heart issue)
obstructive (blockage)
shock compensation signs
slight mental status changes increased respiratory rate:heart rate delayed capillary refill pale, cool, clammy skin sweating
nervous system dysfunction
- strokes
- infection (meningitis, encephalitis)
- disease (lou gherigs, ms)
- low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)
endocrine dysfunction
not enough hormones
too many hormones
organ or gland failure
digestive dysfunction
hydration level impact
gastrointestinal bleeding
-slow, chronic or massive w pooping and booting
