-Strong magnetic field used in MRI scans= more detailed image

A

-Claustrophobic patients may find it anxiety-provoking

-Expensive resource

-not recommended in certain situations: eg: if you have mental implants because of magnetic field

What are some advantages of PET scans?

A

-High levels of precision so very scientific and objective

-Can see brain function as well as structure in LIVE participants

-Reveals biochemical information that is not available with other imaging techniques

What are some disadvantages of PET scans?

A

-Invasive procedure due to radioactive material

-Ethical issue: Ps exposed to radiation

-Can only be used a few times: limit on number of injections given

-Expensive

A

ADVANTAGES:
-Useful for revealing abnormal structures in the brain.
-High quality images.

DISADVANTAGES:
-Require more radiation than traditional x-rays.
-Can only provide structural information.
