Favela pacification
a program started in Rio de Janeiro to make favelas safer by removing gangs and improving police presence. Special police units called UPPs (Pacifying Police Units) are sent into favelas. Their job is to remove drug gangs, reduce violence, and stay in the area to keep peace. The police also try to build trust with local people and help improve schools, health care, and services.
