Population Distribution
How people are spread out across a country or region — some places are crowded, others are empty.
Convectional Rainfall
Rain caused when the sun heats the ground, warm air rises, cools, and forms clouds that release rain — common in tropical areas.
Ecotourism
Travel that helps protect nature and supports local communities — like visiting rainforests without harming them.
Stakeholders
People or groups who care about or are affected by something — like farmers, tourists, or government officials in a geography project.
Community
A group of people living in the same area.
Marginal Lands
Areas where it’s hard to grow crops or build homes — often dry, rocky, or steep.
Relief (geography)
The shape and height of the land. It shows how flat or hilly an area is.
Grand Escarpment
A long, steep slope or cliff that separates two areas of land at different heights (mountains from coast) — found in the south east region of Brazil
Weather (geography)
The day-to-day conditions outside, like rain, sunshine, wind, and temperature.
Climate Zone
A region with similar weather patterns over a long time, like tropical, temperate, or polar zones.
Tropical
A hot and humid climate found near the equator, between the tropic of the cancer (north) and the tropic of the capricorn (south) often with lots of rain and lush forests.
Precipitation
Water that falls from the sky, like rain, snow, sleet, or hail. Measured in mm
Temperature
How hot or cold the air is, measured in degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit.
Subtropical
A climate that’s warm but not as hot or wet as tropical areas — often found just outside the tropics.
Amazon Rainforest
The largest tropical rainforest in the world, found mostly in Brazil. It’s full of plants, animals, and rivers. Important for biodiversity and climate regulation
Amazon River
A huge river that flows through South America. It’s one of the longest rivers in the world. 6400 km. Has many tributaries
Atlantic Ocean
The second-largest ocean, found between the Americas, Europe, and Africa.
Coast
Where the land meets the sea or ocean. Important for fishing, tourism, trade and shopping two important beaches are Copacabana and Ipanema
Rainforest Layers
The rainforest has 4 layers: emergents, canopy, under canopy, and forest floor.
Emergents
The tallest trees that rise above all others.
Canopy
A thick layer of trees that blocks sunlight and is home to many animals.
Under Canopy
Smaller trees and plants that grow in the shade of the canopy.
Shrub Layer
Bushes and small plants that grow close to the ground.
Forest Floor
The bottom layer, dark and damp, where fungi and insects live.
