Carbon capture Flashcards
Cards explaining carbon capture with examples
1
Q
What is carbon capture?
A
Technology used to prevent CO2 entering the atmosphere (from the use of fossil fuels).
2
Q
How does it work?
A
Carbon is caught and separated from other gases through pre combustion, post combustion and oxygen fuel consumption, then transported via pipes, and then stored in depleted oil fields or saline aquifers.
3
Q
Issue with some carbon capture methods?
A
Can be stored in oceans, but causes acidification and inevitably increases atmospheric stores.
4
Q
Example of carbon capture?
A
Saskatchewan in Canada capturing 1million tonnes per year.
5
Q
How much does this centre cost?
A
$800 million
6
Q
How much carbon produce by aircraft in 2013?
A
700m tonnes
