- tunica externa
- tunica media (varies in thickness)
- tunica interna
what allows ions to pass through the muscle cells within the heart?
intercalated discs and the atrioventricular (AV) node
how does the AV node allow ions to pass through the heart/
spreads the ions through the bundle of his and purkinjie fibres
how is back flow of blood prevented?
valves (tricuspid, mitral and semilunar) and chordae tendineae
what is the function of the chordae tendineae?
help anchor valves and stop them from flipping the wrong way
what is the heart’s natural pacemaker called?
the sinoatrial (SA) node
how does the SA node work?
generates electrical signals that
causes the atria to contract
what do arteries split into?
arterioles
what do veins split into?
venules
what are in between arterioles and venules?
capillaries
where does the coronary artery take blood?
the heart muscle

the brain
