Q

What is the first phase of the conduction system about?

A

Diastole: There is no electrical impulse - heart relaxes and the atria is filled with blood. Therefore, no contraction.

Q

What is the second phase of the conduction system about?

A

Atrial systole: SA node generates an electrical impulse
which travels across the walls of the atria causing them to
contract and force blood into the ventricles.

Q

What is the third phase of the conduction system about?

A

The impulse reaches the AV Node, delays, and then travels down the middle of the heart along the bundle of His and then around the walls of the ventricles along the Purkinje fibres, causing the ventricles to contract.
