Cardiovascular System L1 Flashcards
(9 cards)
What are the three steps of cardiac cycle
Atria fill
Atria contract
Ventricles contract
Atria fill
Atria fill with blood from vena cava and pulmonary vien
The atria ventricular valve then shuts
Pressure increases inside the atria
This forces the valves open
Blood now starts to enter the ventricles
Atria contract
The atria contract to make sure all of the blood enters the ventricles
The semi lunar valves remain closed
Pressure increases
The semi lunar valves are forced open
Ventricles contract
Force the blood around the body and lungs
Pulmonary circulation
The transport of blood from the heart to the lungs and then back to the heart cycle.
Systemic circulation
The transport of blood from the heart to the muscles and organs and back to the heart cycle.
Pathway of blood
Vena cava
Right atrium
Right ventricle
Pulmonary arteries
Lungs
Pulmonary veins
Left atrium
Left ventricle
Aorta
Body
Biggest chamber in the heart ?
Left ventricle
Why does blood pass through the heart twice
Because of a double circulation system
