Nervous Control Of The Cardiac Cycle Cardiovascular System L4 Flashcards
(6 cards)
Sa node
Generates a nerve impulse across atria to make them contact
Av node
Delays transmissions of the nerve impulse so the atria can empty
Bundle of his
Transmits the impulse from the atria into the ventricles
Purkinje fibres
When the impulse reaches the pf the ventricles contract - pumping blood out of the heart through the aorta and pulmonary artery.
Sympathetic nervous system
This prepares the body for exercise and is responsible for increasing heart rate.
Impulse sent through sa nose faster impulses are then fired out increasing heart rate.
The parasympathetic nervous system
Responsible for slowing our heart rate down.
Impulse sent through parasympathetic vegas nerve to slow the sa node and decrease heart rate
Used for rest and recovery
