How did militarism contribute to WW1
Militarism = empire building > the desire of prospering a country’s/empire’s military in order to receive greater protection and strength
How did Imperialism contribute to WW1
Imperialism = empire building > the desire of prospering to broaden their land mass/empire by gaining control of powerful countries
How did Alliances contirbute to WW1
2 Major Alliances being the triple alliance (Austria-Hungary, Germany and Ottoman empire) and the triple entente (France, Britain and Russia)
How did Nationalism contribute to WW1
Nationalism = one’s pride in their country, defending and strengthening it, as well as a strong belied that others are inferior to them. This both united and divided countries involved in ww1.
Before War - The Long peace
No great conflicts (all continents involved) or wars in europe since the fall of Napoleon (except Prussia Franco War 1871
La Belle Epoque (The beautiful era)
Optimism, regional peace, economic prosperity and innovation
Queen Vic - Kaiser Wilhelm, Tsar Nicholas II and King george were all first cousins
Industrial rev - Sanitation, society, infrastructure
Was fragile - prosperity masked national and international jealousies, sizes of armies, economy and machinery
