Cell Parts: Structure and Function Flashcards
Organelles, prokaryotes vs eukaryotes, cell theory (11 cards)
Nucleous
Control centre of the cell: holds DNA and the nucleolus
Cytoplasam
A gel-like substance that holds eveything in the cell, and allows the organelles to move
Vacuole
Large, central one in plant cells, smaller ones in animal cells
holds water in the cell
Endoplasmic Rectillum (ER)
Transports materials (protiens, hormones, etc.) around the cell
Can be rough (with ribosomes) or smooth (without ribosomes)
Golgi Apparatus
Packages and transports materials out of the cell
Mitochondria
Creates the energy of the cell released from sugar (cellular respiration)
glucose + oxygen —> Carbon Dioxide + Energy (ATP) + water
Chloroplast
Only found in plant cells
Aids in photosynthesis but trapping energy from the sun to make sugar
Carbon dioxide + sunlight + Water —> Oxygen + glucose
Ribosomes
Aids in the creation of protiens
Can be found on the rough ER or free floating
Lysosomes
Found in animal cells
breaks down waste material in the cell via enzymes
Cell wall
Found in plant cells
a thick layer that gives the cell structure strength and extra protection
Cell membrane
seperates inside of cell from the outside, controls what goes in and out of the cell
