CH5 Flashcards
(4 cards)
4 Characteristic of tropisme
Permanent
Influenced by hormones
Slow and not apparent
Direction depends on direction of stimulus
3 Characteristic of nastic responses
Not all for growth
More quicker and more apparent than tropism
Some are intended for survival
5 Phytohormones and functions
Auxin
- Functional in phototropism & Geotropism
- Stimulate development of apical dominance in shoots and roots , growth and elongation of roots and shoots cells and cell division in cambium during secondary growth
- Inhibits abscission of fruits and young leaves and growth of lateral buds
Gibberellin
- Stimulates growth and elongation in stem cells & development of leaves, flower, fruits and germination of seeds
- Causes growth of flower in dwarf plants
- Inhibits development of roots
Cytokinin
- Stimulates division and elongation of root and stem cells when auxin is present
- Stimulate seeds germination and growth of lateral buds
- Inhibits development of apical dominance
Abscisic acid
- Inhibits growth of plants
- Stimulate abscission of mature fruit leaves and flower
Ethylene
- Stimulate ripening of fruit and abscission of fruits and leaves
Effects of auxin on growth response
Area that receives more auxin grow faster causing coleptiles to curve to that side that receive less or none auxin.
