Chapter 10 Flashcards
(10 cards)
Electromagnetic spectrum
Range of electromagnetic energy/ radiation (light) visible and invisable
Wavelength
Distance between peaks
Photosynthesis
Endergonic reaction
Anabolic reaction converts solar to chemical energy
Photosystem
Specialized sections within a thylakoid sac membrane
Photosystem II
Functions first and is the best at absorbing a wavelength of P680
Photo system I
Best at absorbing a wavelength of P700
Dark Cycle/ Calvin Cycle
Anabolic process—Endergonic
Build complex carbs from smaller molecules by using ATP and reducing electron power
3 phases
carbon fixation
Reduction
Regeneration
Calvin cycle- Carbon Fixation
Carbon dioxide incorporated into a 5 carbon intermediate —-ribulose biphosphate (RuBP)/ rubisco
Unstable 6 carbon intermediate splits in half
Calvin Cycle- Reduction
Each molecule of the 3 carbon sugar is phosphoruylated by ATP NADPH donates electron and phosphate— g3P
Calvin Cycle- Regeneration
Last step of the Calvin cycle 5 of the 3 carbon G3P are rearrange into 3 molecules of RuBP
Has to spend 3 ATP to prepare for the next molecule carbon dioxide
To produce 1 molecule for G3P , 9 molecules of ATP and 6 molecules of NADPH rom light cycle must be spent—
G3P can be used for carbon skeleton
