A

A
  • some abolitionists were disappointed not all slaves were freed but glad for a 1st step
  • border states happy to keep their slaves
  • proved Union wanted to end slavery so South fought harder
  • British sided with Union

A

Happened at Appomattox Court House:
- General Grant let General Lee keep is sword
- He let many Southerners keep their horses
- He shook hands with Lee
- He promised confederates would NOT be tried for treason
