What 3 types of surveys do we do?
Scene, primary, secondary
Looking for hazards, number of victims, mechanism (case) of injury
Sense survey
Making sure airway is open, breathing, pupils, responsiveness, skin condition, pulse, bleeding; potential life threatening injuries
Primary survey
What does PEARL stand for?
Pupils equal and reactive to life
What are the ABCDE of surveys?
Airway, breathing, circulation, disability, expose
What is the AVPU levels of responsiveness?
Alert, responsiveness to verbal stimuli, responsiveness to painful stimuli, unresponsive
How do you examine LAF?
Look and feel
What do you look for in a physical exam (DOTS)?
Deformity, open wounds, tenderness, swelling
What is a SAMPLE history?
Signs and symptoms, allergies, medication, pertinent past illnesses, last oral intake, events leading to injury or illness
Where do we start performing assessments for adults?
Head to toes
Where do we start performing assessments for children?
Toes to head
Most common airway obstruction?
Tongue blocking airway
How long do we check for pulse, circulation?
No longer than 10 seconds
