What are the types of bandages?
Roller, triangular, adhesive tape, adhesive strips
Why does the body form blisters?
Body tries to protect itself from an external irritation (pressure and thermal energy); body forms blisters
Pain, red skin from burn
1st degree/ superficial
Intense pain, moist skin and blisters from burns
2nd degree/ partial-thickness
Dry skin (various colors), no pain, and hard to touch from burns
3rd degree/full-thickness
How do you assess burns?
Size percent body surface area, check face, airway, hands, feet, medical conditions, age
What type of shock is common in burn victims?
Hypovolemic shock
Determines the size of burn, percentage from each part of adult’s body

How do we treat first degree burn?
Cold water, give aspirin, apply aloe vera gel, moisten skink, do not cover the burn
How do we treat second degree burns?
Cold water, give aspirin, apply bacitracin, cover with dry, nonsticking, sterile dressing, do not break blisters

How do we treat 3rd degree burns?
Cover with non-sticking dressing, treat for shock by elevating legs and keeping victim warm, do not apply butter,s pray, ointment, any other coating on burn
How do we treat chemical burns?
Brush dry chemicals off before flushing, flush with large amounts of water, seek medical attention
