what is globalization?
A process by which the world has become interconnected as a result of increased trade and cultural exchange
what is the effect of globalization on food availability, production and consumption of food?
-an integration of local and national economies, industries, and food systems
-a removal of barriers between countries, allowing trade of foods between them
-more diverse foods available worldwide
-foods available all year round
whets the impact of globalization on health?
globalization of processed foods has increased
many of these foods are high in saturated fats, sugars, and/or salt -as a result are a concentrated source of energy
these are responsible for excess kilojoules being stored as fat, increasing obesity and other diet-related conditions (cardiovascular disease, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes)
therefore impacting health negatively
