Used to protect the under floor beams.
The length corresponds to the amount of beams the object crosses and therefore is more supported along a longer length.

What issues can insecure cargo lead to?

Injury to people, particularly forward of cargo
Unplanned movement can move CG and therefore put the aircraft out of limits
Structural damage to aircraft
Blockage of emergency exits.
Damage to other cargo.
