- What is proprioceptive feedback ? Describe an example illustrates how proprioceptive feedback could enable an athlete to successfully repeat a previously learned athletic skill
Proprioceptive feedback a type of performance feedback that is the internal stimulation generated from movement of the body in space and by the position and movement of parts of the key with respect to others
Example: after a young athlete has learned a sport skill the proprioceptive feedback enables the individual to successfully repeat that skill such as shooting a basketball accurately from the free throw line
- What is external information feedback ? Give an example
External informational feedback is a judgment provided to an athlete about the quality of performance that the athlete just displayed
Example: a figure skater will know from the proprioceptive feedback whether of not a jump has been landed but the figure skater will have difficulty judging the quality of his/ her choreographed presentation entail the skater hears the presentation score from the judges
- What are two reasons that public posting of practice performance might be more effective as a motivator that the athletes private monitoring of performance ?
- If can be effective in stimulating peer interactions to reinforce increased output
- If can also serve as an important reminder to coaches to provide praise for progress
- What is meant by “recruitment of positive feedback”? Illustrate with a sport example that is not in this chapter
It is a strategy to improve performance that involves an individual emitting a desirable behaviour and then telling someone about it in order to receive positive feedback
Example: a figure skater asked her coach to give her a grade in his hard she worked
