General Survey: *Physical appearance *Body Structure *Mobility *Behavior
Level of Consciousness: Awake, Alert, Oriented( Person, place, time)
If Disoriented what order do they lose their orientation?
1.Time 2.Place 3.Person
Head, Eyes, Ears, Nose, Throat
Female presents with facial hair
Half the face is strained, one eye is closed, half the mouth is smiling
Conjunctiva turns yellow (jaundice)
Non accidental trauma
One eye dilated. What is it called and must you ask?
Anisocoria. How long have you had this?
Drooping of the upper eyelid
Where is one place to push on the ear to asses pain?
When the trachea is not midline?
Caused by pneumothorax- collapsed lung pushes trachea laterally. This is an emergency!!
How does COPD affect the thorax?
Thorax looks sunken in
pigeon-chested, front of boat
sibilant wheeze high pitch
sonorous wheeze (Rhonchi) lower pitch
mild stridor- obstruction of larynx
severe stridor- obstruction of larynx
pleural rub- inflammation in pleura
Where is tricuspid?
Right atrioventricular valve (remember God placed his trade mark (TM) on the heart. M is Mitral)
