Q

Nonlinear Effects

A

Effects that don’t follow a straight line. Can only be found with 3 or more levels of the IV.

Q

Dependent groups t-test/ANOVA

A

When the groups or conditions depend on one another (matched groups design, repeated-measures design, etc).

Q

Placebo Control Group

A

A control group led to believe they’re receiving a treatment when they’re not. Used when knowledge of treatment may influence behavior as well as the placebo effect.

Q

Wait List Control Group

A

A control group that doesn’t receive treatment during the study but will be given equivalent treatment after the study has ended. Used when treatment and control group are experiencing the same condition. Also used when it would be unethical to withhold treatment and treatment is relatively short.

Q

Yoked Control Group

A

A control group that receives an equal amount of a particular treatment. Occurs because each control group member is “yoked” to an experimental group member. Used when the treatment group controls how long they’re in a treatment or which treatments they complete.
