Omnipotence
The all-powerful, almighty and unlimited nature of God.
Omnibenevolence
The all-loving nature of God.
Trinity
The three parts of God. The father, the son and the Holy Spirit.
Incarnation
God becoming flesh in the form of Jesus Christ.
Atonement
Jesus’ death healing the rift between humans and God.
Divine Command Theory
The belief that something is right because God commands it.
Agape
Selfless and unconditional love.
Inter-faith dialogue
Different faith groups and people coming together to improve understanding of different faiths.
Omniscience
The all-knowing nature of God.
Holy Spirit
One part of God and the Trinity that works in the world today.
Resurrection
A Christian belief that Jesus rose from the dead three days after being executed.
Messiah
The word meaning ‘the Anointed One’. The Messiah is the one believed to be sent by God to be humanity’s saviour.
Creation
The act by which God brought the universe into being.
Literalists
Believe that the Bible is the actual words of God and they take it literally.
Old-earth creationists
They believe that God created the universe as described in Genesis in six long stages and this is sometimes called day-age creationism.
Liberals
Believe that Genesis 1 is a pre-scientific attempt to explain the origins of the universe. Liberal Christians take a post-scientific view. They have no problem believing scientific accounts of the Big Bang Theory.
Crucifixion
An ancient form of execution in which a person was nailed or band to a cross.
Ascension
The ascent of Christ into heaven on the fortieth day after the resurrection.
Blasphemy
The action or offence of speaking sacrilegiously about God or sacred things.
The Golden Rule
Treat others how you want to be treated.
Treasure on earth and in heaven
Jesus taught doing good deeds was like making ‘deposits’ into a spiritual treasury or bank account.
Absolute morality
You always have the same moral outlook, regardless of the situation.
Relative morality
Each situation is different and you act accordingly to get the better outcome.
The fall
When Adam and Eve disobeyed God they understood right and wrong and broke their relationship with God.
