circulatory Flashcards
(12 cards)
circulatory system
Acts as a link between cells of a complex organism and its environment.
hemoglobin
protein found in red blood cells that carry oxygen in body
open v closed system
opened - blood moves freely through body cavities (blood no always enclosed) ex; grasshopper
closed -blood moves contained within tubes/vessels in the body
blood vessels
tube structures that carries blood in our body
3 types of blood vessels
- arteries - blood vessels that carry blood away from the heart –> organs + tissues of the bod
2.veins - returns blood from body tissues to the heart
- capillaries arterioles + venues are connected by networks of capillaries and exchanges nutrients, wastes, and oxygen between blood + body cells
pericardium
membrane that protects the heart
artria vs ventricles
atria - located on the top of the heart left + right thin walled
ventricles - located at the bottom left + right of the heart thick walled
septum
seperates poor blood oxygen to the left and rich blood oxygen to the right
valves
controls the direction of the blood
- A-V valves - allows blood flow from atria to ventricles
- Semilunar Valves- blood flows from ventricles to arteries that carries blood away from the heart
pulmonary circulation
blood to and from the lungs
system circulation
blood to different parts of the body
