digestive + respiratory system Flashcards
(12 cards)
oral cavity
your teeth , tongue, salivary glands breaks down whats being digested. mechanical + mechanical digestion breaks down the food
pharynx (back of throat)
rolus (ball of food) is formed after oral cavity, and being pushed down to phraynx and it sends food to esophgus
esophagus
connect mouth to stomach and it is where the food moves through from peristalic action
cardiac sphinter (door way to stomach) and stomach
(where proteins continue being broken down and lipids start) food enters thru cardiac sphinter where food is being churned and mushed and where protein digestion begins
facts should know:
breaks dwn bacteria
acidic level is 1.5-2.5 (vv acidic)
mucus surrounds stomach protecting from acid
small intestine
very long tube and performs mostly chemical digestion (where lipids start breaking down)
pancreatic juice from pancreas
bile from liver
intestinal juice from walls of small intestine
carbs + proteins etc are being broken down the small intestine then abosrobed
large intestine
undigested food and water enter here and abosorbs excess water and vitamins form feces
rectum
anus
epiglottis
flap of tissue covering the voice box (larynx) and trachea when swallowing so food only goes through esophagus
larynx
voice box
peristalic action
alternate waves of muscle contraction + relaxing that forcefully pushes to move food to the digestive tract. food chymes from stomach and mixed with 3 juices being:
large intestine
