1
Q

Who is Charles Darwin?

A

The “father of evolution” and came up with the theory of evolution after noticing different islands had different environments

Made a book: Origin of Species

Q

what were the 6 main points in his theory? NOCSVA

A

1) natural selection (main main point)
2) overproduction
3) competion
4) speciation
5) variation
6) adaptation

Q

what is natural selection

A

when animals/plants with traits that help them survive are more likely to live and reproduce, passing those traits on to generations. Over time, these traits become more common in the population (survival of the fittest)

Q

what is overproduction

A

when species produce more offspring than can survive creating competiton for resources and the ones best suited for the environment are likely to survive.

Q

what is competion

A

when same/different species fight for limited resources like food, water, and shelter. species with traits that give them an advantage in the competitions are more likely to survive and reproduce, this eventually leads for those traits used in competition to become more common the population. (only strong will survive to reproduce)

Q

what is speciation

A

process when new species form: when a group of organisms become separate (from from the rest of their species , they develop into new traits from adaptation of different enviornements. they eventually become different they cannot physcially reproduce with their original organisms groups and considered different species.

Q

what is variation

A

difference in traits between the same species by genetic factors or environmental influences giving the population a range of traits.
(variation caused from sexual reproduction) q
