  2. Heart muscle contracts and relaxes continuously to pump blood around the body

Blood Vessels

A
  • Tubes that transport blood
  • Arteries are the thickest blood vessels and transported blood rich in oxygen, away from the heart
  • Veins transport blood rich in carbon dioxide, towards the heart
  • Capillaries are the thinnest blood vessels and surround organs to facilitate substance exchange
