Heat P4 Flashcards
(4 cards)
1
Q
Good Conductors of Heat
A
- Allow heat to flow through them easily
- Eg Metals for cooking allow heat to be conducted from fire to the food more quickly
2
Q
Poor Conductors/Insulators of Heat
A
- Do not allow heat to flow through them easily
- Eg Wood/Rubber/Plastic
- Solids are the best conductor of heat, followed by Liquids, followed by Gas like air
- Eg in a winter jacket, both the fur and the trapped layer of air are insulators, slowing down heat loss from our warmer body to the colder surroundings
3
Q
Heat Gain
A
- What gained heat from What
- Increase in Temperature (and maybe change in state: Water Cycle)
OR - Expands
* application: thus the water level rises and overflows/ball cannot fit into hole anymore
4
Q
Heat Loss
A
- What lost heat to What
- Decrease in Temperature (maybe change in state)
OR - Contracts
*application: thus causing water level to fall or balloon to contract
