Types of Life Cycles
A
- Three-Stage Life Cycles (eg Chickens, Grasshoppers, Cockroaches): Egg, Young, Adult
- Four-Stage Life Cycles (eg Butterflies, Mosquitoes): Egg, Larva, Pupa, Adult

Grasshopper Life Cycle
A
- Egg: Laid in the soil
- Nymph: Moults several times as it grows. Look like adult but smaller with no wings
- Adult: Has wings and can fly

Butterfly Life Cycle
A
- Egg: Usually lasts from 3 to 10 days
- Larva/Caterpillar: Feeds on leaves for 3 to 6 weeks. Also moults several times
- Pupa/Chrysalis: Undergoes metamorphosis that can last from days to months
- Adult Butterfly: Feeds on nectar from flowers. Important pollinators

Mosquito Life Cycle
A
- Egg: Laid in Water
- Larva: Called a Wriggler and lives in water, Moults several times as it grows
- Pupa: Lives near water surface and breathes air
- Adult

Flowering Plant Life Cycles
A
- Germination of Seeds
- Requires Water, Oxygen and Warmth (WOW) - Roots grow out first downward into the soil
- Shoot grows out next upwards out of the soil
- Young plant depends on seed leaves for food before first leaves grow out
- Cycle repeats itself after pollination and fertilisation of flowers
