circulatory system quest Flashcards
(17 cards)
what is the function of the circulatory system?
each curl in our body needs nutrients and oxygen
the circulatory system transports oxygen and nutrients to the cells through the blood stream and carries waste away
how many circuits are in the circulatory system and what are they?
There are two.
Pulmonary circuit
Systemic circuit
what does the pulmonary circuit do and how does it differ?
it carries oxygen poor blood from your heart to your lungs
when at lungs, it gets rid of CO2 and picks up O2
what does the systemic circuit do and how does it differ?
carries oxygen rich blood from your heart throughout your body
when it gets to your cells it drops of O2 and picks up CO2
what is the order in which it goes?
superior vena cava
right atrium
to the tricuspid
right ventricle
to the p valve
pulmonary arteries
(to lungs)
left atrium
to bicuspid
left ventricle
to bicuspid
aorta to the body
a ______ circulating throughout the body connects the body systems together by bringing needed _____, _____, _____, and ______ _______.
connective tissue , oxygen, nutrients, hormones, and removing waste
how many parts of the blood
- red blood cells
white blood cells
platelets
plasma
what do red blood cells do?
carry oxygen and nutrients from the lungs and deliver it to the body
what do white blood cells do?
fight bacteria and infection
what do platelets do?
prevents blood clots and bleeding
what is/does plasma do
a yellow liquid that takes nutrients, hormones, and proteins to the body
what are blood vessels?
network of tubes that carry blood
what are three types of vessels
arteries
veins
capillaries
what do arteries do
carry O2 rich blood away from the heart
thick muscular wall due to extreme pressure
muscle can contract to push blood
what do veins do
carry CO2 rich blood back to the heart
lower pressure so walk are not so thick
what do capillaries do
network throughout body
one cell thick to enable gas and nutrient exchange by diffusion
connect the arteries to the veins
