what is clubbed foot?

A

o Genetical abnormality where the foot is twisted inward (tows point at each other)
o Feet can be easily returned to midline by manipulation because the bones are malleable (the sooner they start, the better)

What is the treatment for clubbed foot?

A

o Teach range-of-motion exercises to the family
o Every 1-2 weeks they recast this child for 8-12 weeks
o Will need corrective shoes and splints when they grow older
o Surgery occurs between 3 and 12 months if casting does not work

o	Cast care:
	Avoid lotion near the cast
	Keep clean and dry
	Do not put anything in the cast
	Raise pillow to prevent swelling
	No walking if in a Spica cast

A

 Change in color of toes
 Coolness of the toes that does not blanch when pinched
 Infection
