Maintain airway- keep suction at bedside- give 02
Turn pt to side
Nothing in mouth- watch loose teeth, suction after seizure
Side rails up, padded, guide down to floor

WHat is simple partial (focal) seizure?

A

any age, no LOC, less 30 sec, no post confusion, no aura, motor/sensory, progress to generalized seizure

A

3yr-adolescents, consciousness impaired imm, last 30-5min, post amnesia/confusion, AURA, feeling anxiety, abdominal pain

WHat is tonic-clonic seizure?

A

a type of generalized seizure aka grand mal
any age, rare before 6 months, abrupt onset- 1-2 min LOC, postconfusion (min to hrs), may/not have aura, body becomes stiff and rigid when all muscles contract (tonic phase), followed by rhythmic jerking (clonic phase)

What is petit mal seizures?

A

a type of generalized seizures aka childhood absence epilepsy
hyperventalation 3 min, genetic predisposition/mutations, ages 4-10 yrs w/ remission in adolescence, no aura, frequent (50-100 per day)

What is Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy?

A

a type of generalized seizure
onset usually during puberty, no LOC, child recovers in seconds, mostly occur while falling asleep/waking up, involuntary muscle jerks of neck, shoulders and arms

What is west syndrome?

A

a type of generalized seizure aka infantile spasm
onset 18 mon- 4 years, severe form of epilepsy, seizures occur in clusters (5-150 per day), spasms of neck, trunk, and extremities, stops by 5 yo, occurs as infant falls asleep/ wakes up, developmental delays occur

A

aka Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome a form of generalized seizure
onset 1-8 yo, combo of generalized seizures tonic-clonic, absence and myoclonic, drop attacks, severe behavior problems, delayed psychomotor development
